She was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Fort Wayne, to Harry C. and Vera Houghton Romine. On March 14, 1947, in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was stationed, she married Charles Collins Jr., who died in 1954.
She graduated from Albion High School in 1942 and in 1946 from Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, South Bend, as a registered nurse. After graduation, she served several months in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps assigned to the Talihina government hospital in Oklahoma.
After Chuck was killed serving in the Navy, she returned to Indiana, and devoted her life to raising her only child, Christine Collins Sheets, who survives.
She worked in the medical department at Uniroyal Mishawaka for over 29 years. In her retirement she enjoyed bowling, golf, travel and being with family and friends. She lived in the South Bend-Mishawaka area for 54 years, but after suffering a stroke in 2008, she moved to Warsaw to be nearer her daughter and son-in-law.
In addition to her daughter, survivors include son-in-law, David Sheets, Leesburg; sister-in-law, Edith Romine, Kimmel; two grandsons, Andy (and spouse Amanda) Sheets, Noblesville, and Brian Sheets, Chicago, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Luke and Ellie Sheets; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Leo Romine and Velda Romine Wolf.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, funeral chapel with Chaplain John Schrock officiating.
