Defends Jarrette

I am replying to the letter Greg Rogers wrote on April 28, 2008. I would encourage anyone who reads Greg's letter, as well as this one, to go back and read the letter to the editor that Judge Jarrette wrote on April 25, 2008. This letter negates everything Greg Rogers is attacking Judge Jarrette for. If you don't have the newspaper, go to the Times-Union's Web site and you can find it there.
In Judge Jarrette's letter, he explains exactly why our tax dollars are going to pay for - a special prosecutor. The Kosciusko County prosecutor has elected not to participate in probation violation proceedings. This was not Judge Jarrette's decision, this was an Indiana Supreme Court decision, and was enacted because the Kosciusko County prosecutor doesn't want to show up to court. Judge Jarrette is not trying to play prosecutor, and from what I read, the state of Indiana won't let him either. That is why our tax dollars are going to pay for a special prosecutor.
If anyone is responsible for spending these tax dollars, it is the Kosciusko County prosecutor. The reason he elects not to show up does not matter. It's just not right for Kosciusko County's citizens not to have a separate judge and prosecutor. Last I checked, our sixth amendment right said that everyone has a right to a fair trial. What I see here is that our current Kosciusko County prosecutor doesn't agree, and would rather spend your tax dollars on a special prosecutor. Remember that next time his office comes up for a vote.
