Debora Jo “Debbie” Shoemaker, 61, Leesburg, passed away at 9:33 a.m. Jan. 26, 2016, in her residence.
She was born Jan. 14, 1955, in Pigeon, Mich., to Willis Eugene and Sara Stutzman Berkey.
She grew up in Warsaw then moved around the country, returning back to Leesburg in 2007 after she retired from Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, Phoenix, Ariz. Being a lab tech was her passion in life. She was married to Kim Shoemaker for over 15 years. She was a laboratory technician for multiple hospitals thoughout the country. She was a five-year lung transplant survivor.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their games and she always liked keeping score. She enjoyed rock climbing, hiking, gardening, dancing, singing, nature and animals, especially her dog, “Zoey.”
She is survived by her mother, Sara Berkey, Bourbon; three brothers, Steve Berkey, Elkhart, Royce Berkey, Corlane, Idaho, and Kurt (and spouse Tricia) Brandon, Bourbon; a son, Justin (and spouse Ellen) Shoemaker, Leesburg; a daughter, Jessica Shoemaker (and fiancé Robert Fuzi), Archbold, Ohio; her grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Shoemaker, and Morgan, Kayla and Tyler Perry; step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Derreck Davis and Makayla Fuzi; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Willis; a stepmother, Marie Berkey; and a stepfather, Richard Harris.
There will be a visitation with family and friends  from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
