The 3rd Annual Day At The Lake is set for the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds Aug. 28.
In a combined effort, six people from various local companies got together a few years ago and hatched the idea for the Day at the Lake.
According to Mike Loher, who brings the entertainment to the fair every year, the goal was to benefit St. Jude's and have all the proceeds go the hospital.
He teamed with Jay Michaels of Willie 103.5. Joining them were Anita Jones and Loreen Lemon from Symmetry Medical, Minerva Nevarez from Wildman Uniform and Chris Cage from Willie 103.5.
The group worked to secure sponsorship, bring in entertainment and food vendors.
And all the money raised Aug. 28 will go directly to St. Jude.
Last year, during a day filled with rain, the event raised more than $10,000.
Things actually kick off Friday night when the North Central Indiana Antique Tractor Pull comes to the grandstand.
Saturday morning registration begins for the Coyote's 5K starts. The cost to enter is $15 before Aug. 28 and $20 the day of the event. A registration form can be found on Willie 103.5's website, willie1035.com
The 5K and family fun walk gets going at 9 a.m. The main gates open at 11 a.m. and there are plenty of activities to keep a family busy all day.
Along with a 90-mile poker run, kids can decorate and design t-shirts donated by Wildman Uniform.
There will be an obstacle course for kids, and parents can attend a child ID clinic.
Ronald McDonald will be on hand to put on a show, and kids can get their face painted.
Cage will be doing karaoke, and Mel's Pony Rides and Petting Zoo also will be on hand. At 1 p.m. there will be a cornhole tournament.
Much like the fair, there will be a variety of food vendors on hand. The food vendors also donate a portion of their profits to St. Jude.
All kids activities are free.
As for the country music entertainment, it starts at 3 p.m. with Jonathan Cox from JB Rocket, who appeared on CMT's "Can You Duet".
Eden's Edge, Bomshel and Shakin' Bake also take the stage before Joe Diffie closes out the night.
Starting in 1990 with his first hit single "Home", Diffie has had 12 No. 1 hits, 20 top 10s, and four gold and platinum albums. Some of his hits include "If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)", "Pickup Man", "Third Rock From the Sun", "John Deere Green" and "Bigger Than the Beatles". Loher said that several St. Jude patients will appear on stage that night as well.
"It really makes your problems seem small when you see a 5-year-old fighting for his life against cancer," said Loher. "After meeting these kids I don't know how someone couldn't donate to a place like St. Jude."
Those interested in attending The Day At Lake can buy tickets at the fair by visiting boxoffice.kcfair.org
Tickets are also on sale at the fair office near the grandstand at the fairgrounds.
The cost is $10 for general admission grandstand and $20 for reserve track seating.
Tickets also will be on sale the day of the event. but Loher said by that time the reserve track seating may be sold out.[[In-content Ad]]
