NORTH MANCHESTER - David Russell Penn, 85, who was living with his daughter in Silver Lake, and formerly of North Manchester, died at 6:25 p.m. May 27, 2010, at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.

He was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Wabash, to Murray and Ethel Metzger Penn. On June 29, 1946, in Rochester, he married Ilant Hopkins, who died Aug. 27, 2001.

He was a World War II veteran and retired from Datavue in Wabash.

He is survived by three children: William Joseph (and spouse Sandy) Penn, Cleveland, Tenn.; Connie (and spouse Scott) Ambrose, Warsaw; and Janice (and spouse Melvin) Johnson, Silver Lake; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (and spouse Anna Mae) Penn, Warsaw; two sisters, Virginia Hopkins, Cypress, Calif., and Eva Brewer, California. He was preceded in death by a son, grandson and a sister.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Grandstaff-Hentgen, Bender Chapel, North Manchester, with Pastor David Wagner officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.

Calling is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
