He was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Norwich, Norfolk, England, to William “Chick” and Joan Lincoln Stahl.
He was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School, class of 1963. and he attended Butler University. He retired from Guide-Lamp in 1993 as a Journeyman tool and die maker. In 1993, he founded and operated Dynamic Engineering, Westfield. He was an accomplished musician on the alto saxophone. During his sophomore, junior and senior years at Alexandria-Monroe High School, he received consecutive scholarships to the prestigious Interlochen Music Camp and Festival in Michigan. Concurrently, during his junior and senior years at Alexandria, he played in the Ball State University orchestra. He received a full music scholarship to Butler University.
Helping others has been the focus of his life. He was involved in rescuing dogs and horses. Where he stabled his horses, he encouraged inner city kids and even nursing home residents to come ride and learn of the beauty of God’s creation, the horse. Because of his love of horses and horsemanship, he affectionately was given the nickname “Cowboy Dave.”
Surviving are a former wife, Sue Marling Stahl, Zionsville; a sister, Linda Stahl Kramer, Leesburg; a nephew, Jason Kramer, South Dakota; and a brother-in-law, Terry Hall, Leesburg.
A celebration of life gathering for family and friends to honor his life and legacy will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 11, 2016, in the Palomino Ballroom, Zionsville.
