He was born Feb. 12, 1944, to Virgil and Anna Priest Kistler. On Aug. 31, 1962, he married Suzanne Knepper, who survives.
He retired as the sexton of Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell, after many years of faithful service. He was a bus driver for Wawasee Community Schools for 17 years and had also worked with his father-in-law, Herald Knepper, in Knepper Construction for many years.
He was a member of Sparta United Church of Christ where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. He also coached little league baseball and served as a Boy Scout leader for many years. Most of all, he enjoyed being a granddad and spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. He was always there to support his family and cheer on the grandchildren at their games.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Sue; his parents; and a brother, Gerald Kistler.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South, Ligonier, with Pastor Wray McCalester officiating. Burial is in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell.
