He was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Warsaw, to Chester and Hannah Weimer Payne. On Sept. 12, 1970, he married Margaret Marsh, who survives.
A lifetime area resident, he retired from Syracuse Rubber after 43 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-53, during the Korean War. He was a volunteer fireman for the North Webster Fire Department for more than 31 years. He was a member of North Webster Lions Club.
Also surviving are three stepsons: Mike Smith, Cromwell; Roger Smith, Elkhart; and Doug Smith, North Webster; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Vince (Vicki) Hamada, Valparaiso; and Mrs. Erik (Terri) Bartman, Cromwell; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Phil Payne, North Webster, and Jim Payne, Satellite Beach, Fla.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery.
Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with full military rites by members of American Legion Post 253, North Webster.
