NORTH WEBSTER – David L. “Dave” Carey, 67, of Leesburg, died at 12:19 a.m. Aug. 6, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Dec. 9, 1943, in Huntington, to Fred Orlando and Esther Rose Gardner Carey. On June 16, 1962, in North Webster, he married Beverly J. “Bev” Ferverda, who survives.

He lived in South Whitley until moving to the North Webster/Leesburg area in 1955. He graduated in 1962 from North Webster High School. He retired after 40 years as owner and operator of Carey Excavating, North Webster/Warsaw, and 20 years with Carey Realty, Warsaw. He was a member of North Webster Church of God, where he served on various boards and was a board member at Mutual Bank, Warsaw. He formerly served on the Wawasee School Corporation board for 14 years and Combined Community Services for eight years.

Also surviving are two daughters, Deb Carey, North Webster, and Beth (and spouse Phil) Maish, Goshen; a son, Jeff (and spouse Amanda) Carey, Leesburg; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry (and spouse  Huletta) Carey, Warsaw, and Nick (and spouse Jesse) Carey, Fort Collins, Colo. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at North Webster Church of God with the Rev. Jeff Boyer officiating. Burial will be in McClintic Cemetery, Syracuse.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster, and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
