David Frank Mayhew, 73, Warsaw, died at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 11, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 19, 1940, in Gary, to Edward W. and Ruth Rowena Torbet Mayhew. On July 5, 1997, in Warsaw, he married Jane Ellen Storment Fritschle, who survives in Warsaw.
He graduated from Gilead High School in 1958. He lived most of his life in Warsaw area. He worked as a safety tech for R.R. Donnelly and Sons for 44 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Warsaw. He was a ham radio operator for more than 60 years known as WA9ZYC, loved wood carving, music especially southern gospel and bluegrass, and he loved to play the harmonica.
Also surviving are two sons, Douglas (and spouse Michelle) Mayhew, Claypool, and Duane (and spouse Sandra) Mayhew, Warsaw; a daughter, Danita (and spouse Dan) Spangler, Pierceton; two stepchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Mayhew, who died Aug. 24, 2009.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor David Cripe, New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
