COLUMBIA CITY - David Eugene "Gene" Dunfee, 88, of Columbia City, died at 5:25 p.m. Feb. 6, 2009, in his residence.

He was born April 9, 1920, in Fort Wayne, to David H. and Estella C. Barney Dunfee. On May 30, 1942, he married Lucille L. "Lucy" Lundquist, who died Aug. 31, 1998.

He graduated from Larwill High School in 1938. Living in Fort Wayne for eight years, he moved west of Larwill then to Columbia City in 2006. He was a farmer and retired from General Electric in 1981, after 39 years of service. He attended South Whitley United Methodist Church and was a member of Larwill Lions Club.

Surviving are two sons, David (and spouse Barbara) Dunfee, Columbia City, and Doug (and spouse Marsha) Dunfee, Vail, Ariz.; two daughters, Janice (and spouse Royce) Ruckman, Huntington, and Patricia (and spouse Richard) Schroeder, Warsaw; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Calvin Dunfee, Columbia City. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastor Al Buehler officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
