BOURBON - Darwin "Dar" Monesmith, 76, of 5379 N. Ind. 19, Etna Green, went to be with the Lord at 10:37 a.m. May 8, 2007, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He passed away from injuries suffered from a fall on Monday at his residence.
He was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Bourbon, to Henry and Vera Young Monesmith. On Feb. 1, 1951, he married Geraldine Hoffer, who survives.
A lifetime Bourbon and Etna Green area resident, he graduated from Bourbon High School in 1949; DeVry Institute with a degree in electrical engineering; RETS Technical Institute with a degree in solid state electronics; and completed RCA broadcast technical training. He owned and operated a TV repair business for many years; was a part-time farmer; and worked as a broadcasting engineer for TV stations WSJV (Channel 28) and WHME (Channel 46) for more than 50 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement, he enjoyed his job of transporting motor homes for Newmar Corp., Nappanee. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Bremen. He was the recipient of a lifetime membership of the Society of Broadcasting Engineers. He enjoyed going camping, riding his Honda Gold Wing, working with computers and electronics, as well as he was licensed with the FCC as an amateur ham radio operator.
Also surviving are his four children: David "Harv" (and wife Kathy) Monesmith, Bourbon; Michael (and wife Gloria) Monesmith, Warsaw; Mrs. Jeff (Cheryl) Heck, Mishawaka; and Mrs. Leo (Darlene) Mangus, Plymouth; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Marilee) Holdeman; and a brother, Don (and wife Lois) Monesmith, Bourbon.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tippecanoe Community Church, 2920 18B Road, with Dr. David Turner and the Rev. Jerry Smith, pastor of First Baptist Church of Bremen, officiating. Burial will be in Etna Green Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
