CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. – Darrel L. Briar, 74, Cambridge City, passed away suddenly Oct. 19, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 11, 1939, in Wayne County, to Albert and Margaret Wissler Briar. On Aug. 20, 1960, he married Marjorie E. Petty, his wife of 54 years, who survives.
He lived his entire life in the Wayne County area. He was a 1959 graduate of Straughn High School. He was a member and deacon at the Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren, Hagerstown. He retired after working several years in toy production for TEDCO Inc. His favorite hobbies were woodworking, camping and fishing, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Also surviving are three children: Kent (and spouse Jane) Briar, Warsaw; Patricia (and spouse Rex) Arn, Van Wert, Ohio; and Brett (and spouse Marilyn) Briar, Loogootee; eight grandchildren: Patrick, Kaleena, Joshua and Jacob Briar; Erin Herbst; and Nathaniel, Katelynn and Meredith Arn; three great-granddaughters: Jada, Grace and Sophie Briar; four sisters: Donna (and spouse Leslie) Ramey, Delma (and spouse John) Brown, Diana (and spouse Francis) Robinson and Deola (and spouse David) Robinson; three brothers: Duane (and spouse Linda), Douglas (and spouse Deborah) and Darvin Briar; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in Brick Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel, Cambridge City, and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church.
