NAPPANEE - Daniel E. Smith, 43, of 1008 Meadows, Nappanee, died at 2:45 a.m. May 30, 2007, in his residence.

He was born June 4, 1963, in Mishawaka, to Walter and Pamela Neff Smith. On Aug. 2, 1997, in Elkhart, he married Brenda Prater, who survives.

A lifetime area resident, he was a Jimtown High School graduate. He was a welder at Hochstetler Grain for 11 years. He also worked part-time in security for Jim Miller private investigation.

Also surviving are his mother, Pamela Smith, Elkhart; two daughters, Mrs. Chad (Christina) Hochstetler, Nappanee, and Tiffani Smith, Mishawaka; five sons: Bryon Jones, Nappanee; Carl Edward Smith, at home; Logan Alan Smith and Timothy Tucker, both of South Bend; and Kenny Bicknell, Elkhart; seven grandchildren; six brothers: Michael, Walter C. and Mickey Joe Smith, all of Elkhart; Jonathon Smith, Middlebury; Matthew Smith, Shipshewana; and Jason Smith, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Dana (Elizabeth) Platz, Nappanee, and Mrs. Victor (Angel) Sanchez, Elkhart. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Terry Tyler officiating. Burial will be in Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
