WABASH - Daniel Duaine Backus, 59, of Silver Lake, died at 8:03 a.m. April 22, 2010, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born April 3, 1951, in Wabash, to James and Carma Gagnon Backus. On July 4, 1975, he married Diana Sopher, who survives.

He was a retired truck driver from Dana and currently worked part-time at Jelly Stone Park, Pierceton. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1195, Wabash.

Also surviving are four children: Felicia Baker (and companion Dan Buell), North Webster; Bret (and spouse Jeanna) Backus, Warsaw; Angela James (and companion, Ryan Rouch), Culver; and Krista and Luke Bradley, Rochester; a brother, Steve (and spouse Linda) Backus, Akron; a stepbrother, Stephen (and spouse Cathy) Gagnon, Warsaw; a stepsister, Barb (and spouse Tim) Heinbaugh, Wabash; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home, Wabash, with Pastor Gary Loy officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
