Get prepared to be scared.
What would Halloween be without taking time out to visit a few of your favorite haunts?
There are a variety to choose from, both here and, for those who can't get scared enough at home, a short drive away.
The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club's fourth annual Haunted Warehouse is already under way, with spooking going on almost nightly until Halloween.
From 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Oct. 29 through Nov. 1, and from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday are advertised as the "really scary nights" when participants claim "we're gonna scare the yell out of you!" Organizers said there are several new facets to the warehouse, with something scary around every corner, and pointed out that the scariest things are the things you don't see.
Keeping kids in the spirit of the holiday, there is also a special haunting for them from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday, with friendly clown "spooks," prizes and treats. Kids are encouraged to use flashlights to help overcome any remaining fears.
The Haunted Warehouse is located in the old Endicott Factory at 765 W. Market St. in Warsaw. Admission on kiddy night is $3 for children under age 10 and $1 for adults with children. The cost for admission for all other times is $5 per person.
Proceeds from the Haunted Warehouse benefit the youth of Kosciusko County.
At the North Webster/Tippecanoe Township Fire Department, kids can visit the mini haunted house in the back room of the fire station.
This activity is geared toward children over age 5 and features a minimum to medium amount of scariness. It takes place during trick-or-treat hours (6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31), and kids and their parents also can enjoy apple cider and cookies. Treats will be handed out for the kids, too.
The haunted house sponsored by the North Webster Lions Club each year at Adventureland has gone by way of the grim reaper. That event was canceled this year.
Nappanee Civic Theatre dares people to visit The Haunted Farm located at the Nappanee Derksen Farm on CR 7, between U.S. 6 and CR 52.
The farm is open for courageous visitors from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today; 6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 6:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 31; and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 1.
The Haunted Farm includes a fun area for children 10 and younger, and classic horror movies such as "The Fly," "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and "The Blob" will be shown on the big screen in the barn.
Admission to The Haunted Farm is $3.50 per person, with reductions in costs for groups of 15 or more (call 773-3412 for information and rates). Parking is available at the farm, and a free shuttle is offered from Martin's Supermarket on East Market Street. [[In-content Ad]]
