He was born Sept. 2, 1939, in Warsaw, to Oscar Alvin and Bonnie Mae Grisamer Bjella. On Sept. 2, 1961, at Selfridge Air Force Base, Harrison, Mich., he married Luanne Frances Meyer, who preceded him in death July 19, 2001.
He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident and graduated in 1958 from Syracuse High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired in 2004 from Dana Corporation, Syracuse, after 24 years of service, and formerly worked at Liberty Homes and Commodore Corporation in Syracuse for more than 20 years. He formerly attended the Syracuse Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Carr, Milford; two sons, David (and spouse Michelle) Bjella, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Ronald Bjella, Milford; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his life companion, Betty Rutter, Syracuse; and twin brother, Dennis (and spouse Anita) Bjella, Syracuse. He also was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, with Pastor Stan Owen of the Syracuse Church of God officiating. Burial is in Syracuse Cemetery with military graveside rites by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, American Legion Post 223 and VFW Post 1382, both of Syracuse.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
