He was born April 30, 1927, in Fort Wayne, to Ora and Doisha Warren Gaut. On June 17, 1978, in South Bend, he married Gloria Andrews Filley, who survives.
He moved to Florida from Bremen in 2004. He was a World War II veteran and retired from Bremen Bearings, where he was a supervisor. He was a former member of Nappanee Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Also surviving are two daughters, Vicki (and spouse Bill) Hubner, Warsaw, and Brenda (and spouse Gene) Rinkenburg, Plymouth; three sons: Don (and spouse Lucinda) Gaut, Nappanee; John (and spouse Patty) Gaut, Leesburg; and Mark (and spouse RaeAnn) Gaut, Wakarusa; a stepdaughter, Sherri (and spouse Jeff) Six, Bremen; four stepsons: Ted (and spouse Carla) Filly, Lakeville; Craig (and spouse Sara) Filley, South Bend; Scott (and spouse Sue) Filley, Elkhart; and Jack (and spouse Debra) Filley, Wakarusa; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a half sister.
Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, to proceed to Union Center Cemetery for a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. with military graveside services by members of Nappanee American Legion.
