The tour began in the company conference room with a presentation by Derek Sparks, director of lean manufacturing.
Sparks talked about the history of Da-Lite and about the changes that have taken place over the years.
A sign on the wall states the Da-Lite commitment to maintain its position as a world-class producer of projection screens. The motto “Think Big” is reflected throughout the plant and captured in the day-to-day operations using the principles of lean manufacturing to target wasteful practices and find ways to eliminate them through sustainable process improvements.
In May 2010, Da-Lite achieved zero-landfill status in its Warsaw manufacturing facility.
Recycling tubs are highly visible throughout the plant.
Besides landfill diversion, Da-Lite is ISO 14001:2004 certified.
Da-Lite is a member of the Indiana Environmental Stewardship Program and the United States Green Building Council.
Greenguard® certified fabrics are standard on Da-Lite projection screens and many of their sales consultants are Leed® AP accredited.
An on-site recycling center for household waste takes Da-Lite’s commitment to landfill diversion one step further by encouraging employees to bring recyclables to work for disposal.
A tour of the plant allowed visitors to view the large productions screens that are displayed prominently throughout the plant.
Da-Lite employs a Kanban scheduling system to drive each department’s daily production.
Employees are able to view where they are in that day’s production by looking at their department’s board.
Da-Lite also employs the use of “dashboards” to monitor daily operations and post production-related reports to raise production associates’ awareness of their department’s performance.[[In-content Ad]]Founded in 1909, Da-Lite Screen Co. is the leading producer of high-quality commercial and residential projection screens worldwide.
