She was born March 9, 1933, in Carbon, to Ralph G. and Rae Moler Dowen. On June 26, 1953, she married Burns S. Becht, who survives.
She was a 1950 Bainbridge High School graduate, attended Franklin College and earned a master's degree in guidance from Indiana State University. She taught school at Oaktown and Washington and became a counselor at Danville. Moving to Fulton County in 1966, she taught at Grass Creek, was a counselor at Caston High School and was the guidance counselor at Rochester High School until retirement in 1988. She was a member of Manitou Moose Lodge, Chapter 1684, and was selected by Mooseheart as deputy grand regent for Indiana and deputy regional manager for the Ladies of the Moose, organizing training sessions throughout Indiana for Mooseheart. She was a 58-year member of The Order of the Eastern Star at Carbon and Brazil.
Also surviving are a son, Robert Becht (and spouse Sarah Sayger), Monticello; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a sister.
A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, by members of Women of the Moose. Burial will be March 9 in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
