The venture began in January 2006 with gallery and studio/classroom space on Pickwick Square.
Owners Tammy Kratzer, Mary Gerard, Kathleen Boyts and Linda Zimmerman have much more to offer in the former Grand Hotel building at 100 Main St. on the corner of Huntington and Main streets. Yeager Photography occupied the first floor of the building for many years.[[In-content Ad]]"We're very excited about it," Kratzer said of the move. "We haven't interrupted any classes. Our oil painting class is very popular as so are the jewelry and guitar classes."
The building is divided into two colorfully painted galleries, display area and relatively huge studio and classroom area. A small music store occupies one corner, too. Once the basement renovation is complete pottery and woodworking will be offered downstairs.
The overall impression is one of color and freshness. While the owners are offering commercial gift lines now, most of the exhibited work is made by the Fish's 16 members.
Art work occupies the walls, display cases and is featured in the building's many windows. Naturally, a fish motif swims through a variety of media. Furniture is painted, tiled and beaded. Pottery is presented in traditional as well as organic forms.
Members are charged a $100 initial fee plus $30 a month. They have the right to display their work and are charged 20 percent of the sale price. They have access to the studio area at any time.
Creative Fish offers classes in watercolor and oil painting, stained glass, scrapbook collage, glass fusion, guitar and violin lessons, handbuilt pottery, precious metal clay, jewelry, margarita glass, mosaics, tile making, mixed media collage, wrought iron and mixed media collage as well as paint-your-own chair, paint-your-own pottery and stepping stones.
