Water damage to the building was more than $100,000 and the building was deemed a total loss.
Now owner Tracy Nichols has rehabbed the building and is ready to expand what Crazy Day Gourmet does, not only for its customers but for the community.
Crazy Day Gourmet will finally reopen April 9.
At 3510 Commerce Drive in Warsaw, it’s located behind the Goodwill store in Warsaw in the same shopping strip as Bower’s Jewelry.
It has a drive-thru window for convenient pickup of meals or coffee drinks and tea.
Nichols has partnered with Intelligentsia Coffee out of Chicago to provide fair-trade coffee and tea products.
Fair-trade products are those that are assured to have not been made from slave or child labor in third-world countries and work to provide fair wages for those making the products.
Crazy Day Gourmet is open from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The shop is now serving lunches for carry-out. There is also limited seating in the storefront to enjoy their meals there.
The lunch menu will features soups, salads and quiches.
The goal of Crazy Day Gourmet is to provide tasty and healthy meals to families when they are just too busy to cook for themselves.
Nichols also has partnered with Positive Fitness owner Lou Siri. Siri is encouraging his members to follow a Paleo diet so Crazy Day Gourmet is providing dining options for those going that way.
Nichols also said that they are increasing the amount of options available for customers each day.
Up to five meal varieties can be purchased at Crazy Day Gourmet.
There also will continue to be gluten-free options including soups, salads and gluten-free croutons.
Nichols and partner Stephanie Hapner also remain proud of the fact that The Crazy Day Gourmet remains the only nut-free bakery in town.
Nichols said that’s important to her as a mother of a child with a severe allergy.
The bakery also provides treats for kids looking to bring some to school. That’s become even more of a need now that schools no longer allow homemade products brought from home.
Nichols also has created the Care Like Crazy campaign.
It works two-fold.
Crazy Day Gourmet is partnering with Fellowship Missions. For every 10 meals sold by Crazy Day Gourmet, a gift certificate for a meal goes to a needy family.
Also, for every 10 dozen baked goods sold, a low-income child will have a voucher to take treats to school for their birthday.
“We’re very blessed to reopen,” said Nichols.
Crazy Day Gourmet remains focused on catering for both private parties and business functions.
Now that Nichols and Crazy Day Gourmet has a second chance, they are going to make the most of it.
Tuesday will be Free Tastings Tuesdays.
Nichols also said she will get involved with a Grow/Give campaign that has people with gardens grow vegetables and they will be processed in the Crazy Day Gourmet’s kitchen to provide baby food for those in need.
With more selection and options, Nichols hopes to bring back the customers she had before the store had to close, and bring in more.
