Courthouse Renovations On Schedule
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Courthouse renovations, mostly "unseen" upgrades to the heating, air conditioning and electrical systems, are on schedule, according to county administrator Ron Robinson.
Kosciusko County Commissioners also heard Tuesday that basement-level offices have been moved to the Justice Building. Several offices have been completed with the installation of ceiling fans and new lighting.
Improvements to the courthouse steps also are underway and Robinson said Atlas Co. stonemasons should return next week. The stair's side panels had to be quarried and fashioned to match original designs.
A chandelier will hang from the old courtroom's central medallion again. The design features four opaque globes in a 4-foot diameter ring with a central brass globe, which will hang 11 feet from the ceiling. The design is on display in the commissioner's room, on the northeast corner of the third floor of the courthouse.
Kosciusko County Highway Department Head Dennis Pletcher was thanked for upgrading the detour roads established around bridge reconstruction on Lake Street. Commissioners Ron Truex and Brad Jackson both said any road problems or concerns expressed by citizens has been taken care of in a timely fashion.
Commissioners president Avis Gunter appointed Truex one of three "viewers" of Muskellunge Lake level. The other viewers are Tim Moyer and Dick Kemper. The lake level is being established in court by the Department of Natural Resources to prevent flooding onto other property.
Approved the vacation of Roy Drive in Roy Hohman subdivision on Yellow Creek Lake. The drive was not installed where it was originally platted according to Matt Sandy and needs to be vacated. The actual drive, constructed south of the original placement, will be rededicated, which the commissioners approved.
Heard from Larry Yeager, who introduced himself as a highway engineer applicant. He talked about his education and experiences in Indiana and Maryland.
Approved an Operation Pull-Over grant in the amount of $21,000.
Reviewed the Turkey Creek Regional sewer District's semi-annual report.
Renewed a bovine brucellosis and tuberculosis eradication program contract.
The commissioners meet every other Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the old courtroom of the courthouse. [[In-content Ad]]
