Everett Nifong, of Lake City Bank, the 2012 Campaign general chair, told the audience Tuesday at the 2012 Community Celebration and Annual Meeting that $2,039,511 was raised in 2011. In 2012, a total of $2,043,412 was collected.
“So I thank you,” he said. “On behalf of the board, we thank each and every one of you for the piece of the puzzle you played in raising this amount.”
In 2012 and 2013, the county’s United Way also has an opportunity through the Indiana Association of United Ways with the INvest 1213 grant to get matching dollars for any new money raised in the campaign. Nifong said so far, the county United Way has been able to claim $132,639 of the maximum $202,000 available.
Board President Erin Rowland Jones opened the meeting with a prayer and recognition of the 2012 board of directors. Board members completing two terms were recognized, including Steve Carlson, Aaron Rovenstine and Gary Tenney. Dennis Duncan was recognized for completing his first term.
Four people were on the slate and approved for re-election to the board, including Don Bergen, Siobhan Davenport, Joel Harstine and Tim Meyer. Approved for their first term on the board were Jeri Burkhart, Jason Hill, David Hoffert, Becky Plummer, Cindy Sisson and Amanda Tom.
Davenport, community impact chair, then spoke about many of the 52 programs the United Way of Kosciusko County supports. Of those programs, 10 are educational, 18 are income related, 19 are health based and five are “other.”
After the 2012 campaign video, Nifong said the annual fund drive is one of the most important tools the United Way can use to have community impact. As the 2012 chair, he said the campaign was impossible to do without his cabinet members, and he recognized the unit and division chairs.
“We truly appreciate all your time and efforts in doing that,” he told them.
Each year the campaign starts with companies identified as Pacesetters. The role of a Pacesetter in the campaign is to start the community fund drive ahead of other organizations and complete the campaign in time to report to the community in August.
In 2012, the five Pacesetters were able to pledge close to $101,397, a 32 percent increase over the previous year, to United Way. The Pacesetters included Grace College & Seminary, Lake City Bank, Maple Leaf Farms, Martin’s Super Market and Orange Door Dental Group.
After recognizing new businesses to the campaign, Nifong then announced the award winners.
Honorable Mention was given to those who achieved at least 80 percent of their internal campaign challenge, and included Bart’s Water Sports, Biomet, Crossroads Bank, Danco Anodizing, Farmer’s State Bank, Grossnickle Eye Care Center, Medtronic, Teachers Credit Union, TSA Communications and Zimmer.
Employee Advancement Awards were given to those companies which achieved higher than their employee challenge. The companies included 1st Source Bank, Akzo Nobel, KGP Logistics, Orange Door Dental Group, OrthoPediatrics and the Town of Winona Lake.
Award of Excellence Awards were given to companies that have contributed to their full potential, which included Mid-City Supply Co., Lake City Bank, Tower Bank, SYM Financial Advisors and United Way of Kosciusko County.
Rowland Jones then presented the Key Leader of the Year award to Randy Polston, of Grace College & Seminary. “Randy did a great job and we just want to thank him,” she said.
The Volunteer of the Year award was given to Nifong.
Nifong then announced Nora Macon, of Maple Leaf Farms, as the 2013 Campaign general chair.
Macon said, “I am really looking forward to this upcoming campaign and putting together a great team to put together another successful campaign.”[[In-content Ad]]
