Bob Weaver, KCSD administrator, said the health department will provide the necessary sterile water bottle. Residents then use the bottle to collect a sample of their well water and turn that in to the health department. The water test takes 48 hours.
A person should have their water tested only after the flood waters recede.
When a well head is under water, Weaver said that can be an entry point for bacteria from the flood waters. The free water test will determine if bacteria have seeped into the well water.
The regular health department hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office is on the third floor of the old county courthouse. Telephone number is 574-372-2349.[[In-content Ad]]
