County To Buy New Servers For Security Camera System

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

Kosciusko County commissioners approved the purchase of three new network servers for the county's security camera system today.

The cost of the new servers is $30,636. County Administrator Ron Robinson told the commissioners the servers control the security cameras that keep surveillance of the county justice building, including the jail, and the county courthouse. Robinson said there are 229 cameras at the justice building and, when the county added the 14 cameras at the courthouse, it proved to be too heavy a load for the current servers.[[In-content Ad]]"We're running into problems in the justice building," Robinson said. "We had a lot of maintenance costs this year."

The commissioners unanimously approved the purchase.

The commissioners also approved County Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher's request to decline federal funding for the replacement of a county bridge. The bridge is on Country Club Road, between CRs 300 and 400S.

Pletcher said the county was approved for $591,000 in federal funding to replace the bridge, however, he said if the county replaces the bridge by federal standards, the cost could be close to $1 million.

"In good faith, I cannot see spending taxpayer money that way," Pletcher said. "Even though it's federal money, it still comes out of our pockets."

Pletcher told the commissioners he thinks the county can replace the bridge for about $300,000 by bidding out the work itself. The commissioners approved Pletcher's request to withdraw from the federal aid system for the project.
