Calling it a "spectacular effort" by the community, Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce President Mark Dobson confirmed that Kosciusko County has secured $100,000 for a study and business plan from JumpStart.

According to its website, "JumpStart is a national not-for-profit creating economic transformation by efficiently securing and providing resources to entrepreneurs leading high potential, early-stage companies."

Dobson noted the effort of United Way, OrthoWorx, Lake City Bank and the donations of community members to help secure the money for the study.

"It's focused on entrepreneurship and innovation," said Dobson.

The study will, among other things, identify deficiencies in the area when it comes to harboring entrepreneurship as well as get access to angel capital and angel investors.

According to a press release from the chamber, the US Economic Development Administration has identified chronic deficiencies in Northern Indiana's entrepreneurial opportunities.

The cost to be included in the planning process is $450,000. Of this, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation will contribute $150,000. The challenge for Kosciusko County was to raise $100,000. St. Joseph and Elkhart counties are also in the study as well as Fort Wayne and the Portage/Gary area.

After this initial financial commitment is completed, JumpStart will evaluate each community to identify funding gaps, and will work with the IEDC and community stakeholders to develop tactical strategies, and assist in attracting funding sources.

The plan for each community will differ based upon their industries and resources available.

"I think it speaks to how progressive the Kosciusko County economy is," said Dobson. "People understand we have to stay on our toes."[[In-content Ad]]
