County OKs KABS Grant
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Rita Baker, director of Kosciusko Area Bus Service, had some good news for the county commissioners Tuesday.
She said an unused transit grant of $1,800 will be carried over for expenditures for next year.
She also presented two Indiana Department of Transportation grant applications for 2007 expenditures. One, for capital improvements, amounts to $122,000; the second grant, for $405,000, would go toward operational costs.
Baker said the newest KABS bus will have an aquarium theme. She said sponsors will be sought to represent certain underwater themes. For example, banks might like to buy a treasure chest illustration. She suggested lawyers, like the county's own Mike Miner, could be represented as a shark.
The commissioners also:
• Approved rezoning of property in VanBuren Township, 2.78 acres on the west side of Ind. 15, 400 feet northwest of Waubee Road, from agricultural to commercial, as presented by Area Plan Commission Director Dan Richard.
• Vacated three tracts in Tippecanoe Township, as presented by APC Assistant Planner Matt Sandy:
A request by Terry and Susan Fulford to vacate a public way north of EMS W 17 off CR 950E;
A request by William Kann to vacate a public way on the southeast side of Shoe Lake, on CR 450 N at Grassy Creek; and
A request by John Hidy and other owners of lots 4-17 in Vanator Bluff Park subdivision, to vacate Shelf Drive, relocate it within 16 feet of the Barbee Lake shore, and make it an easement rather than a public way.
Commissioners said this is how they would like to see vacations affecting multiple owners presented, instead of being brought before the board one at a time.
In that vein, commissioner Ron Truex asked Sandy how securing rights of way along Eli Lilly Road was going and Sandy said, "We'll look into it."
• Heard from County Clerk Sharon Christner who said annexations by the city and towns have changed precinct borders. She presented an ordinance drafted by the county election board adopting the new boundaries, which the commissioners approved.
• Heard from County Administrator Ron Robinson that Nappanee and Millwood area residents can call county offices toll-free now by dialing 574-773-8444. Silver Lake and Sidney residents can call 260-782-4979.
• Robinson said a toll-free number for the Etna Green, Atwood and Mentone areas are planned.
• Heard county employees plan a garage sale in the Munson Building Aug. 12. The building is along the old Lincolnway Highway, Lake Street in Warsaw and Old 30 in the county. The Lincolnway Association is asking people who live along Lincolnway to have garage sales.
County commissioners are Brad Jackson, Avis Gunter and Ron Truex. [[In-content Ad]]
