The county may need to upgrade security at the Justice Building, Kosciusko County Commissioners heard this morning.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. Capt. Aaron Rovenstine gave the commissioners a report from the U.S. Marshals Service South Bend office following a walk-through with an agent. Rovenstine said the review was overall positive, but suggested such upgrades as the 10-year-old front entrance system, panic alarms and extra security cameras.
The review also suggested forming a security committee with representatives of the county agencies that use the Justice Building. Commissioners asked Rovenstine to form the committee and took the security recommendations under advisement.
Commissioners also accepted a $39,000 grant to reimburse the general fund for 50 percent of emergency management employee wages, and a $21,000 grant for ongoing training. Both grants were reported by Emergency Management Director Ed Rock.
Also via Rock, they heard a request from Nathan Bosch, director of Kosciusko Lakes and Streams, for a 20 percent match of a $37,500 grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources  for Tippecanoe River cleanup. Rock said project organizers will have an idea of cleanup costs after writing bids in cooperation with the DNR.
“That will give us the initial shot of here’s what we can do for that amount of money,” he said.
Rock also reported that the tornado warning system will be tested statewide Wednesday with drills from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 to 8 p.m.
Also during the meeting, commissioners approved lowering the speed limit from 55 mph to 35 mph on Old 15 between South and North streets north of Milford.[[In-content Ad]]

Warsaw Gets Past Goshen On Penalty Kicks, Advances
A September match between the Warsaw and Goshen girls soccer teams resulted in a 1-1 tie after a hard-fought match. Tuesday night, the two teams met for a second time on a much bigger stage: the opening round of the 3A girls soccer sectional tournament at Elkhart High School. With a winner having to emerge this time around, it came down to penalty kicks, with the Lady Tigers winning 5-3 after a 0-0 tie.
