Kosciusko Area Plan Commission will begin preparing for the possible construction of wind towers in the county with a discussion on the creation of a new county wind ordinance at their Dec. 3 meeting.
"Essentially, what they're looking at is establishing regulation on wind turbines and wind mills," said Assistant County Planner Matt Sandy.
Sandy said such an ordinance would focus on the height dimensions of towers and the noise levels produced by turbines. It also would specify locations on which turbines could be constructed and details like setbacks.
Sandy said the purpose of the ordinance will not be to keep towers from being built in the county, but rather to protect property owners from having them built too close to their property or in areas they don't fit.
Several other Indiana counties have wind ordinances in place, including Marshall County.
"Counties that have them vary on how strict they are, what types of towers they allow, the numbers they allow and other elements," said Sandy.
He said the plan commission will examine Marshall County's ordinance as part of their discussion.
The Dec. 3 plan commission meeting will be held at 1 p.m. in the Old Courtroom, Warsaw.[[In-content Ad]]
