GIS Director Bill Holder forwarded a recommendation from the county GIS committee to the county commissioners Tuesday to hire ortho-photography company Kucera International to take new aerial photographs of the entire county. At their Dec. 11 meeting, the commissioners will consider approving a contract with Kucera for $102,000.
Reached by phone, Holder said the GIS committee began its search in July for a company to complete the project. Holder said nine companies sent proposals for the project. Of those, the committee shortlisted and requested pricing information from four companies.
Holder said Kucera's price was about $20,000 less than the one offered by Woolpert Inc., the company that completed the county's last orthophotography update.
Holder said the county last updated its GIS photos in 2005 during a statewide project. He said the update is necessary to maintain the GIS system's accuracy. The new photos will show new developments and changes to all properties in the county.
If the commissioners approve the contract with Kucera, Holder said he expects the new photos to be taken in late March and early April. He said four to six months after the photos are taken, they will be available on the county's GIS system.
Auditor Sue Ann Mitchell reported county residents are taking advantage of a prescription drug discount program offered through the National Association of Counties. According to Mitchell, 573 people used the plan in October to fill 1,192 prescriptions for a total savings of $11,605.15.
In other news, the commissioners approved three rezoning requests recommended by the Area Plan Commission. The commissioners approved a request by Domingo and Genoveva Brito to rezone property on the east side of CR 300E, west of EMS D23A Lane, from commercial to residential; a request by Brian and Schaunesse Glasser to rezone 12.6 acres on the west side of Warner Road, north of the railroad, from agricultural to residential; and a request by Brent White to rezone 18.8 acres on the north side of CR 400N, east of Ind. 13, from agricultural to commercial.[[In-content Ad]]
