County Hears Fund Requests From Local Non-Profits

Kosciusko County Commissioners heard funding requests from local non-profits Tuesday totaling almost $885,000.

The agencies and organizations requesting money include the Kosciusko County Fair Board and 4-H, Arrow Head RC&D, Kosciusko Development Inc., Cardinal Center, Home Health Care, Kosciusko County Historical Society, Beaman Home, Kosciusko County Council on Aging, Saint Joseph River Basin, Animal Welfare League and Bowen Center. Last year, the county contributed almost $840,000 to these organizations.[[In-content Ad]]The highest request was from Bowen Center for $467,830. The county is required to fund Bowen Center.

The commissioners will decide on the funding requests during budget hearings in August. The county council gives final approval on the requests.

The commissioners also approved an agreement for Kosciusko County to act as the fiscal entity for a state fire grant for Indiana Department of Homeland Security District 2. District 2 includes Kosciusko, Saint Joseph, Marshall, Starke, Elkhart, Pulaski and Fulton counties. The state grant will provide $133,000 for training equipment and activities for fire departments within the district.

The commissioners approved a request from County Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher to change a two-way stop at CR 700S and CR 1000W to a four-way stop.

The commissioners gave final approval to the county's plan to contribute $350,000 to upgrade the Leesburg sewer project. The county's contribution will provide for the new sewer along Ind. 15 to accommodate future development.
