The grant, which will go to a seven-county district that includes Kosciusko, will pay for things like tent supplies, latrines and showers in case of emergency.
Emergency Management Director Ed Rock told the commissioners that the grant wasn't specifically geared toward Kosciusko County.
"We'll give another county the opportunity," said Commissioner Ron Truex. "If you came to us looking for $100,000 for tents, I'd hope we'd say no.
"Just because it's there doesn't mean we should spend it just because it's there," said Truex.
Truex and commissioners Brad Jackson and Bob Conley voted unanimously to let another county seek the funding.
Gary Parker, a small business owner in the county, appeared before the commissioners to ask them to consider requiring contractors to display that they are licensed and pay taxes in the county they are working in.
"There should just be something so people who hire me know I'm paying my taxes," said Parker.
County Administrator Ron Robinson had the commissioners sign settlements for the purchase of rights-of-way to move ahead with roundabout projects on Fox Farm Road.
County Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher reiterated that roads he mentioned at the last commissioners meeting that will be turned into gravel will be repaved in the future.
Pletcher also told drivers along Old 30 West near Zimmer Road that there will be work on a tile failure, and while the road won't be closed drivers should be alert.
Truex said they are closer to presenting the countywide sewer district proposal to the Lakeland Regional Sewer District.
Max Courtney, with the Kosciusko Economic Development Corp., formerly KDI, thanked the commissioners for their support and said they have posted the job listing for the corporations' new executive director position.
Robinson's office will receive resumes.
Warsaw/Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce President Mark Dobson also introduced himself to the commissioners.[[In-content Ad]]
