Kosciusko County Commissioners approved this morning a detour route while the city conducts sanitary sewer construction.
The detour will follow Rozella Road between state roads 15 and 25 while Warsaw conducts the sewer work on Ind. 25 at Lake Street. The detour will be in effect for one to two weeks, starting sometime after Memorial Day, Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden said.
Commissioner Ron Truex asked if the restriction on trucks on that stretch of road will be suspended, and Commissioner Bob Conley asked about wear and tear. Tilden said the signs barring trucks can be covered and that he doesn’t expect the extra traffic to be a problem for the road this time of year.
“We have to make sure the sheriff’s department doesn’t enforce the (no trucks) law for a time, then strongly enforce it afterward to get them back in the right frame of mind,” Truex remarked.
Also this morning, commissioners:
• Approved vacating a “stub” of road between two lots in the Pfieffer Veach addition on Barbee Lake, at the request of resident Steven Dandurand. Area Plan Director Dan Richard said the plan commission had no problem with it so long as the utility easement would be preserved, and attorney Steve Snyder, representing the petition, said under state law it would be.
• Approved appointing Rob Parker, the new president of the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce, to the Michiana Area Council of Government regional economic development board. Former chamber director Mark Dobson was previously appointed, and County Redevelopment Commission member Max Courtney also currently represents the county on the MACOG board.
• Approved declaring a list of county highway department gear as surplus, allowing it to be sold at auction or scrapped. The list includes old truck seats, tool boxes and computer desks.[[In-content Ad]]
