The Kosciusko County commissioners sale of property deeds is Oct. 13.

SRI Inc. conducts tax and commissioner sales in 74 of the 92 Indiana counties, including the tax sale for Kosciusko County. Tax sales are for liens.

Today, the Kosciusko County commissioners approved an amendment to their contract with SRI Inc., Indianapolis, for SRI also to conduct Kosciusko County's commissioners' sale.

There are 35 properties listed for the Oct. 13 commissioners sale.

Hollie Theyssen, of SRI Inc., said for each property, SRI will do a title search. For each property sold, SRI charges an 18 percent commission.

Abutting property owners of the property deeds to be sold will be notified of the sale. Some of the properties have been sitting around for several years.

Kosciusko County commissioner Ron Truex said the sale will clean up eyesores and put properties back on the tax roll.

"I can't think of a downside to it," he said.

"These are properties people are never, never going to take back," said county auditor Sue Ann Mitchell.

Property owners usually have more than two years before they lose their property.

In other business, the commissioners:

• Tabled the Mediacom franchise agreement to the May 3 meeting.

• Heard from county administrator Ron Robinson that a couple of trees are being taken down on the courthouse lawn because they are diseased. The disease is not contagious to other trees. New trees will be planted in their place.

• Heard from Mitchell that she changed the procedure for buggy plates. Instead of getting new license plates for buggies, owners can now get plates that can be renewed each year with stickers instead of new plates each year. She bought enough plates and stickers this year to last for some time. Normally, for the plates, Mitchell said, it costs more than $2,500, but this year, it cost them approximately $2,000 with the plates and stickers. Next year, the cost should be less than $1,000.

Plates are $25 per buggy and $7-$7.50 each additional buggy.

Members of the Kosciusko County commissioners are Avis Gunter, Truex and Brad Jackson. They meet at 9 a.m. in the county courthouse, Warsaw, every other Tuesday. [[In-content Ad]]
