Marsha McSherry, past county clerk and more recently county auditor, was named to the position during a Dec. 23 County Commissioner meeting. The pay for the position comes from the commissioners’ budget.
Council OK’d the creation of the two-year position last month at the request of Commissioner Ron Truex, who said current Administrator Ron Robinson plans to retire soon. Truex said the county would be well served by letting the next administrator gain some experience, and council agreed.
Robinson said Thursday McSherry was a good pick.
“She knows a lot already; I’ve always kept the auditor in tune with what’s going on,” he remarked after the meeting. “The commissioners asked me what I thought, and I said I think she can do the job.”
Council approved other fund transfers and salary ordinance amendments related to employment Thursday, including a $2,000 transfer from Statewide 911 overtime pay to part-time pay and the establishment of a $21 part-time dispatcher hourly rate; and a $2,682 transfer in the county health department budget and the setting of wages for secretary, chief public health nurse and environmental food specialist.
The salary contract for newly elected Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine also was approved, a wage set by state statute and tied to the funds the state gives the prosecutor’s office.
And council voted to let Robinson fill a full-time maintenance position that had not been filled for two years but was kept on the books when most other custodial positions were downgraded to part-time; and to allow newly elected Auditor Michelle Puckett to fill two vacant full-time positions in her office.[[In-content Ad]]
