Cougar Pause: Being The 'Hands And Feet Of Jesus' By Helping Moms

On 13 afternoons during the 2014-2015 school year, our students, staff and a few volunteers will go into the community to be the “hands and feet of Jesus.” One of these serving groups we developed from the ground up and I would like to share the details of “Miraculous Moments for Moms” with you.
A little over six years ago one of the young women in my UPS service group and I were both feeling God pushing us to broaden our horizons to reach a group of persons that needed a service that we could provide. After discussions and prayer we determined that many young mothers had no family near to help them with childcare, many did not have the financial means to hire a sitter for their children, and if they did, finding someone during the school day that they felt safe leaving their children with was difficult at best. We also knew that all mothers at sometime are physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted and need a break. So knowing that in Matthew 11:28 Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest,” we had our answer and we began our free daycare on these service days.
We were so blessed then and are still thankful and appreciative today that we have been able to partner with Warsaw Community Church in the use of their facilities for this daycare.
We are happy to announce that on Wednesday we will begin our sixth year of Miraculous Moments for Moms at WCC beginning at 12:55 p.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m., and to invite you to bring your children. We will lovingly care for them, ages birth through kindergarten. The children will be divided as follows: infants, walkers, 2-3 girls, 2-3 boys, 4-5 girls and 4-5 boys. There will be free play, a Bible story and coloring page, craft, large muscle playtime and music, snack, and Bible or character-building video for ages 2 and above.
We have an adult in the infant and walker rooms at all times with our LCA students. We also have an adult who moves between the 4-5 rooms and one who moves between the 2-3 rooms. We have 31 LCA students in our serving group and all of them plus Mrs. Brandyberry, the LCA teacher sponsor, and myself just completed CPR training. Our students plan and present the Bible story, prepare the crafts, plan the large muscle and music time, and one student will prepare and print “Words of Encouragement” for the moms that are presented to them when they pick up their children. We value your child as a child of God and do everything in our power to allow them to have a safe, nurturing and fun afternoon.
Our serving schedule for this year: Sept. 10 (We did not serve but had CPR and childcare preparation.); Wednesday, Oct. 22, Nov. 12, Dec. 3, Jan. 14 and 28, Feb. 11 and 25, March 11 and 25, April 22 and May 6, and all are 12:55 to 3:15 p.m.
