She was born Aug. 20, 1927, in Selma, Va., to Walter O. and Ada Kathryn Carter Dewese. On Aug. 20, 1947, she married the Rev. Mervin A. Cripe, who died Sept. 5, 2002.
She retired in 1987 after 25 years as an elementary school teacher, at Brook Park (Ohio) Memorial Elementary School, which is in the Berea (Ohio) City School District. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren. She graduated from Gauley Bridge (W.Va.) High School in 1943, and Bridgewater College in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She was active in the musical life of the churches where her husband was pastor: Swan Creek Church of the Brethren near Wauseon, Ohio; Eel River Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake; and Brook Park Community Church, Brook Park, Ohio. She enjoyed classical music and playing organ, piano, guitar and trombone. She was a resident of Timbercrest Senior Living Community since 1993.
Surviving are a daughter, Marian (and spouse Robert) Corya, Indianapolis; and two grandsons, Mark A. Bever, Chicago, Ill., and David J. (and spouse Megan) Bever, Felton, Del. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Jo Cripe, who died in 1959, and a sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester, with the Rev. Gordon Bucher officiating. Burial will be in Ulrey Cemetery, Kosciusko County.
Calling is one hour prior to service Saturday at Timbercrest.
