Conley To Seek Another Term

Conley plans on filing Wednesday.
Though Conley is officially running unopposed, Jon Fussle, a pilot from Warsaw, has a Web site stating his intention to run for Conley's seat.[[In-content Ad]]Conley said he believes the commissioners work with the best interest of the county in mind.
Conley has stated that work on the Lakeland Regional Sewer District and having the community involvement in it as a highlight of his term.
Conley also highlighted his efforts to take care of trash problems in the county by creating a ticketing system.
During the meeting, the commissioners approved two agreements presented by County Clerk Jason McSherry.
County Highway Superintendent Dennis Pletcher said he heard rumors that more stimulus money for fixing roads may become available.
While there is nothing concrete in terms of either funding or what roads would be worked on, Pletcher did provide a preliminary list of the following roads:
- County Farm Road from CR 200S to CR 700S.
- CR 700N from the Leesburg town limits to CR 300E.
- CR 300E from Armstrong Road to CR 750N.
- CR 1300N from Milford town limits to Syracuse town limits.
- CR 700S from Claypool town limits to County Farm Road.
- CR 800W from U.S. 30 to Ind. 19.
The estimated cost of the repairs is $140,000 per mile, according to Pletcher's report.
The board also approved an agreement proposed by Pletcher that would allow the town of Pierceton to use a county truck while the county would use a wood chipper owned by Pierceton.
Pletcher told the board the chipper is a safer model than the one that has been involved in accidents that have caused deaths.
The board signed four contracts presented by County Administrator Ron Robinson for roundabouts in the county as well as a contract with the Troyer Group that Robinson said will save the county money.
Matt Boren, from Kosciusko Area Bus Service, had the board approve and sign a grant application for KABS.
David Rosenberry, the new director of personnel for the county's dispatch center, presented the commissioners with a report of statistics from 2009.
Rosenberry said he would go back over the numbers to make sure they were accurate before giving them out to the local media.
The board approved a recommendation from both the Area Plan Commission and the Board Of Zoning Appeals to vacate a piece of land in the Willow Cove addition located on the north side of Big Barbee Lake.
Ron Truex gave an update on the ongoing discussion of a countywide sewer district.
Truex said the Lakeland Regional Sewer Districts lawyer received a copy of a proposed petition and sent it back with changes.
The commissioners' next meeting will be Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. in the old courtroom.
