This is the fifth part of my conclusion to my series of letters summarizing the basic characteristics of fascism and communism and the differences and similarities between them. The fourth part of my conclusion was printed in the Times-Union on Aug. 26.[[In-content Ad]]Before I start with the differences between communism and fascism, one final similarity should be added to the 17 listed in my previous letters to the editor.
18. Centralized Command Economy - As a general practice in fascist or communist countries, the ruling elite, along with bureaucrats and others, attempt to operate their respective nation's economies as a single megacorporation often with disastrous consequences as a result. This type of management includes nationalization of private property and whole sectors of the economy along with compulsory national service. The attempted micromanagement of the overall economy and individual sectors through various bureaucratic agencies, legalized cartels and compulsory government approved unions, numerous regulations, production quotes, wage and price controls multiyear microeconomic and macroeconomic plans, etc.
Difference Between Communism and Fascism
While Communism and Fascism are two forms of totalitarian dictatorship, there are differences between them such as in the following category.
1. Foreign Policy and International Relations:
Fascism - Perpetual conflict between racist, heavily armed, fanatically pro-war empire building nations who prey upon the weak and fight each other for their "fair share" of the planet and its resources, and to fulfill their self-proclaimed destiny to rule over others; is both the desired and logical outcome of the fascist mentality in this particular category.
Communism - The original goal of the communist movement in this particular category was to spread itself like a virus over the whole planet transforming each country it overruns or infiltrates by eradicating the old order and its adherents and leaving in its place a supposed man-made heaven on Earth in the form of a globe-spanning federation of Soviet republics.
The remaining differences between communism and fascism will follow at later dates.
