Basic Characteristics Of Communism Concluded:
19. Class Warfare Theory of History - According to this theory, economics in general and more specifically the struggle between the haves and the have nots is the one-size-fits-all explanation of human history, which discounts or trivializes the other factors that shape human history such as religion, politics, ideas, technology, human nature, nationalism, war, natural disasters, raw willpower, etc.
20. Centralized Command Economy - In communist theory, the workers are supposed to own and manage the economy in common, creating a worker's democracy. In reality, the state, i.e. the ruling communist elite and its bureaucrats of any country it happens to rule over, seriously attempts to operate that particular nation's economy as a single megacorporation often with disastrous consequences as a result.
The ruling communist elite and its bureaucrats, for all practical purposes, has a monopoly of ownership over everything, including workers through the process of abolition of private property, nationalization and compulsory national service. They also micromanage every sector of the economy through the use of various agencies, numerous regulations, production quotas, wage and price controls, multi-year microeconomic and macroeconomic plans, etc.
21. Revolution as a Necessary Means to Utopia - This in one of the most distinguishing traits of communism. The willingness and ability of communists to engage in the violent overthrow of existing governments and societies, literally sweeping away the old order and anyone who resists into oblivion. In its place a new world free of want, oppression, alienation and class divisions where all are equal in the ability and desire to do anything and are selfless in nature is to be established. Of course, a brief examination of history will contrast the reality with the fantasy of this vision.
The differences and similarities between communism and fascism will be dealt with in a future letter to the editor.
