Commissioners OK Radio Equipment Lease

County Administrator Rob Robinson asked to pursue a lease purchase for $286,000 in radio equipment for Kosciusko County Central Dispatch. He said at 16 years old, the current equipment is nearing the end of its life.
The lease purchase would pay about $100,000 a year for three years rather than having to find the full amount in the budget all at once.
Commissioners also approved replacing the water boilers in the justice building for $67,500, after Robinson said one water tank is leaking and the other is out of commission. The boilers are 15 years old.
Commissioners also asked Matt Sandy, Area Plan assistant director, to draft an ordinance changing the requirement for a variance hearing for certain requests in industrial areas. Commissioner Ron Truex noted required hearings for setback variance requests for features like parking lots and loading docks are approved 99 percent of the time and only serve as a hurdle for new businesses considering moving in.
And they recognized D.J. Harris as veteran of the month. The Pierceton resident joined the Army after graduating from Pierceton High School and served in Vietnam from 1965 to ‘68 as a heavy equipment operator.
Also this morning, commissioners:
• Approved a vacation request for an undeveloped road in the middle of a property on Lake Breeze Drive on Hoffman Lake, which was unanimously recommended by the Area Plan Commission.
• Voted to put up for public auction a property at 8993 Epworth Forrest Road that the county took possession of. A condition of purchase is that the new owner clean up the property before receiving the deed.[[In-content Ad]]
