Commissioners OK Box Beam Bid
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
By Jordan Fouts-
County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden recommended the bid from Hoosier Precast LLC, the less expensive of two received. He told commissioners he wanted to order the box beams separately to keep the bridge renovation project on schedule.
Work on bridge #18, on CR 300N over Tippecanoe River, is set to start May 20.
Commissioners also approved a road closure request Tilden presented for CR 300N between Ind. 13 and CR 850E. The 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. closure was requested for a race event May 24.
Jeff Blair, president of the Indiana Lincoln Highway Association, asked commissioners to think about recommendations they could make for appointments to a plan administration team that will oversee spending of a $65,000 federal grant the association received. The grant will be used for information kiosks and signs along the Indiana segment of the highway, which turned 100 last year and was recently granted byway status.
He also said he plans to walk the Indiana segment of the highway’s 1928 route, which goes through Warsaw, starting Friday. Mayor Joe Thallemer will join him May 1 for the Warsaw part of the 11-day walk.
Blair walked the original route through the state in 2011 as a fundraiser for the association and Alzheimer’s research, which will also benefit this year.
Commissioners also heard first-quarter claims for the Kosciusko Area Bus Service from General Manager Kevin Planck. He said KABS gave 11,000 rides in the quarter and sent an invoice for about $116,000 to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
And commissioners signed a proclamation declaring May Motorcycle Safety Month. The proclamation was presented and read by Ben Durham, county representative for American Bikers Aimed Toward Education of Indiana.[[In-content Ad]]
