The deteriorating Country Club Road bridge over Eagle Creek is the top priority out of the 110 bridges in Kosciusko County, commissioners heard this morning.
The bridge will be closed from Monday until late November for box beam replacement. It’s been deteriorating rapidly in the past few years, Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden told commissioners.
He added that many of the bridges in the county were built around the same time and many of the box beam bridges are about 40 years old.
Commissioner Ron Truex remarked that it’s better to replace the bridge before an emergency happens. It takes nine months to a year to get permits for bridge work, Tilden said.
Tilden also said he’ll be accepting bids for road reconstruction on CR 900W to Ind. 25, near the North Central Cooperative facility near Mentone, to be opened next month.
Also this morning, commissioners approved the $62,000 cost of courtroom renovations in the Justice Building. The court reporting system is “hanging by a thread,” Assistant County Administrator Marsha McSherry said, adding that the remodeling will include a new sound system, new carpeting and several computer monitors.
And commissioners approved an updated capital improvement plan, which outlines projects the county has underway as well as their cost and timeline. The plan is needed in order to receive County Economic Development Income Tax funds, said Chad Miner, county attorney.
Teddy Alan Carr was recognized as the veteran of the month at the outset of the meeting. Carr, a 1950 Warsaw High School graduate, served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955, during which he was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station in San Diego.
Carr served as a Seaman Guard on Gate, was a member of the VU3 Squadron in San Ysidro as well as the Utility Squadron and Drone Squadron, and assisted the leading chief in administration. After discharge, he married Pat Barnhart of Claypool, with whom he had two daughters; was a semi-truck driver for more than 35 years and worked for Creighton Brothers until retirement in 2012; and was a Warsaw volunteer firefighter for eight years.[[In-content Ad]]
