To avoid its current system crashing and moving the sheriff’s department back to pen and paper, a transfer was approved to provide a new system that would allow all law enforcement departments access to it.

A transfer of $410,000 from the inmates and institutions fund to computers fund was approved that will allow a new system, OSSI, to replace the current and obsolete Cisco system.

Sheriff Rocky Goshert said the current system is one malfunction away from crashing the entire system and that it couldn't be fixed.

The new OSSI system would allow all agencies in the county to share information.

One feature of the OSSI system is a vehicle locator which would allow departments to keep track of vehicles and also send vehicles closer to incidents when they are called in.

The system could take a year to be fully implemented according to the sheriff’s department.

The commissioners also approved a request from Grace College to serve as a grant applicant for federal funding.

The funding would provide transportation money for buses to Grace College.

County Highway Superintendent Scott Tilden told the commissioners that his crews began chip sealing Friday.

The commissioners approved KABS director Matt Boren to apply for a federal grant totaling $321,086 and a state grant $94,502.

Warsaw Community Public Library’s Kathy Stutzman told the commissioners that September is Library Card Sign Up Month.

Everyone in Warsaw/Wayne Township, including Winona Lake can get a library card. Those who don’t live in that area can apply for one.[[In-content Ad]]
