Columbia City resident Scott Wise is seeking the U.S. Congress 3rd District seat in the May 6 primary.

Wise, 40, a Republican, filed Wednesday at the statehouse for the seat.

The U.S. Congressman 3rd District seat currently is held by Mark Souder.[[In-content Ad]]Wise served on the Whitley County Council from 2003 to 2006.

He said serving on the county council has taught him a great deal about politics and the political process.

"I think the federal government is running citizens into the ground by putting their interests before the citizen's interests they represent," Wise said in a telephone interview Wednesday.

He said he looks forward to meeting voters in the 3rd District.

He said he is running a grassroots campaign and plans to bring thousands of new voters that have felt their vote doesn't matter to the process.

Extreme partisanship, border security, individual liberty and an overreaching federal government are issues he hopes to fix if he is elected.

He said he feels it is important to preserve the nation for future generations.
