I would like to respond to several people if I may:

To Janet Collins: It appears that you would rather Hugo Chavez as president. I tell you what, move there and enjoy paying $1.50 for gas. Then when he does something you do not like, write a letter to one of the Venezuela papers telling him how bad he is. Then we'll all read your letter saying about how wrong you were for supporting a socialist dictator.

It is apparent to me that you and many other people do not understand how gas prices work in this country. Let me point it out.

President Bush does not set the oil/gas prices - he doesn't. Most people like to believe that, but the president does not set any prices.

Oil companies do not set prices. They buy the oil at the prices that are set by oil speculators at the New York Mercantile Exchange. If you want to blame anyone, blame them. Just because Exxon Mobil makes $40 billion in profit that does not make them evil.

Most of the shares of oil company stocks are held by accounts who invest in oil stocks like IRAs, group pension plans, 401(k) plans, or individual investors. Less than 2 percent of oil company stocks are held by the oil executives. So if you tax all that profit, you take money away from shareholders who get that money as dividends, you take that money away from people who want to retire, you take that money from people who would invest in new forms of energy to reduce oil. That makes great economic sense.

Second, to all Clinton or Obama supporters, what has he really done to prove that they should be president?

I watched Obama on TV recently. All he said was "hope" and "change" 200 times in 60 seconds - I had to change the channel.

They both have called for nearly $1 trillion in new federal spending. That will be paid for by tax Increases on the middle class and will also help "illegal" immigrants that are here illegally - yet - people want them to get a slap on the wrist and act like everything is fine.

Last of all, everyone who wants Doug Ogle fired - why? I've known Coach Ogle for many years, and he's one of the best coaches in the Northern half of the state. He has a 59-percent winning percentage as head coach, two sectional titles and a young team coming back next year.

Who I would yell at is the person whoever let the Plumlees kids go. They are 6-10. Who in this part of the state could guard that? I am so glad David Fulkerson is leaving because he is part of this problem. Letting rich kids with no talent get on the basketball team while middle-class kids with all sorts of talent aren't looked at. It appears that the Plumlee kids have plenty of talent if they're going to Duke. Keep Coach Ogle, Dr. Haworth.
