WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) recently welcomed five interns to his office in Washington, D.C.

The interns will have the opportunity to engage in the legislative process by assisting staff with research, conducting tours of the U.S. Capitol and helping with constituent services.

“I am pleased to welcome the first group of interns to my office in D.C.,” said Coats. “A congressional internship provides students an in-depth look at how the federal government operates. I hope this internship is a valuable experience for these talented students.”

Chris Wright of Indianapolis is an economics major at DePauw University.  Wright is a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and plays club lacrosse. This fall he will participate in DePauw’s Management Fellows program where he will intern at Cummins India Limited in Pune, India.

David Long of Indianapolis is an accounting major at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.  Long was awarded the Culbertson Prize at I.U. for the outstanding essay of his freshman class. He hopes to pursue a career in financial consulting after college.

Hunter DeKoninck is from North Manchester and attended Culver Military Academy. Currently a Dean’s List student at Wake Forest University, DeKoninck is majoring in political science. He completed foreign studies in Morocco and interned at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria. Following his internship in the Coats office, DeKoninck will spend the rest of this summer conducting research in Uganda. After graduation, he hopes to do consulting work in Africa.

Kaitlyn Murphy of Warsaw  is a student at Wheaton College where she is pursuing a major in art with a graphic design concentration and a minor in anthropology. After her expected May 2013 graduation, Murphy hopes to either begin a career in graphic design or attend graduate school for marketing.

Kate Pardo of Kenilworth, Ill., is a juris doctor candidate at the I.U. Maurer School of Law, with an expected graduation in December. In 2006, she completed her undergraduate degree at I.U. with a major in journalism and history. Pardo will assist senior staff on legal and policy issues this summer.[[In-content Ad]]
