BOURBON - Clyde W. Smith Jr., 72, of 1692 12th Road, Bourbon, died at 10:41 a.m. Dec. 28, 2008, in his residence after an illness.

He was born Jan. 9, 1937, in Washington, D.C., to Clyde W. Sr and Otilia Burns Smith. On July 1, 2000, he married Suzanne Neidig, who survives. A Bourbon resident for the past nine years, he retired as a transmission engineer at Daimler-Chrysler and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Moose Lodge, Kokomo, and Bourbon American Legion Post 424.

Also surviving are 10 children: Angie (and spouse Tim) Lovegrove, Dorothy Smith, Tammy (and spouse Mike) Cook and Butch (and spouse Pam) Smith, all of Kokomo; Linda Anger, Michigan; William Smith, Jessica (and spouse Justin) Stoddard, Jeananne Doty and Jacob Doty, all of Bourbon; and J.D. Doty, Mentone; 28 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Linda (and spouse Tom) Haley, Georgia; and two brothers, Ralph (and spouse Pam) Smith, Washington, D.C., and Tom (and spouse Mary) Smith, Michigan. He was preceded in death by a sister.

A graveside service will be at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon, with military services by members of Bourbon American Legion.
