MENTONE - Clyde L. Alderfer, 71, of 7987 N. Ind. 25, Tippecanoe, died at 4 p.m. March 10, 2007, in his residence. He was in failing health for two years.
He was born Aug. 19, 1935, in Fulton County, to Carl and Ruth Ault Alderfer. On Nov. 17, 1956, in Wabash, he married Patricia Ann Mellinger, who died May 7, 1979.
Living most of his life in this area, he lived in Peru for a few years. He was a farmer, loving his green and yellow, and a maintenance man for the former Dytronic Co., Leesburg, where he retired. He was a life member of American Legion, Plymouth; a member of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Warsaw; and a member and past commander of Disabled American Veterans of Marshall County 42, having served in the Army National Guard.
Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Calvin (Beverly) Davis, Pierceton; Carol Walton, Indianapolis; and Lisa Alderfer, Palestine; two sons, David (and wife Brenda) Alderfer and Dennis Alderfer, both of Mentone; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Connie Alderfer, Warsaw; three sisters, Mrs. Earl (Ruby) Thompson and Mary Bruce, both of Mentone, and Mrs. Don (Phyllis) Schuster, LaPorte; and four brothers: Merl (and wife Julie) Alderfer, Laketon; Myron Alderfer, Rochester; Howard (and wife Alberta) Alderfer, Warsaw; and Wayne (and wife Labina) Alderfer, Cromwell. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Alderfer, on Sept. 8, 2004; three brothers, Fred, Earl and Lloyd Alderfer; and a sister, Jessie Armstrong.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at King Memorial Home, Mentone. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery with graveside military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and VFW, both of Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
